Client: The Scottish Parliamnet
Project: Holyrood Parliament Building
Architect/Interior Designer: EMBT / RMJM
One of our strengths is, undoubtedly, our ability to get fully involved in the early stages of a project, working through drawings to mock-ups and finally to fully developed design. This was particularly true for the Holyrood project where, as part of a huge team of architects, structural engineers, cabling contractors, disabled access consultants and experts from many other disciplines, we played a key role in realising the project’s central vision of providing Scotland with a truly world-class building.
Throughout the project, we aimed to translate the striking architectural language of the building into the furnishings, allowing them to become part of the fabric of the building. Using solid and veneered oak for desks and storage walls throughout the building, we introduced complex wood bending, shaping and inlaying techniques to fulfil the architectural vision. Our attention to detail even extended to manufacturing specially made stainless steel fittings for desks.
The Scottish Parliament has been the most challenging, yet ultimately rewarding, project that Ben Dawson Furniture has undertaken to date.
